Does Martyn's Law apply to your venue?
An initial guide for community halls, not a definitive legal assessment. Spring 2027 is expected; the exact commencement date is to be confirmed.
How Hall Ready works
- Check whether the law applies to your venue. It takes about two minutes.
- Build your plan by answering simple questions in your own words. Examples are there if you get stuck.
- Send the hirer sheet to every group that books the hall.
- Keep a log of who's been briefed, and check the plan once a year.
Count everyone: guests, volunteers, staff and performers. Think of your biggest event, such as the Christmas fair, not a normal week.
Your public protection plan
Standard-tier venues need simple procedures for four things: getting people out, getting people in to safety, locking down, and telling people what to do. Answer in your own words.
About the venue
This is what someone reads out when they call 999.
Briefing sheet for hirers
Groups who hire the hall run their own events, so they need to know your plan. Fill in the booking, then send them this sheet or pin it up.
Briefing log & yearly review
Record briefings that actually took place. Review regularly and whenever your venue, attendance or arrangements change. The annual date below is a useful prompt, not a fixed statutory interval.
